Who We Are

At She Built This City, family comes first, prioritizing our well-being both physically and emotionally. We strongly believe in the power of partnerships, as they enable us to have a maximum impact on the community.

Our Story

She Built This City was born from a bold idea: that women, girls, and underrepresented communities deserve real access to high-paying, high-demand careers in the skilled trades. That idea was first ignited by Demi Knight Clark, who challenged the status quo and pushed the conversation forward around women in the trades.

Today, that vision has been actively built, expanded, and carried forward by the leadership of LaToya Faustin, Chief Executive Officer, and the She Built This City team. Under this leadership, She Built This City has grown into a workforce development organization delivering hands-on training, job placement pathways, and barrier-breaking support for women, youth, and marginalized communities across our region.

This is our work now: not just talking about equity in the trades, but creating it.

Values

Our focus is clear: JOBS. We aim to create pathways to employment for women in the trades, making it the ultimate goal of all our initiatives and partnerships. For us, numbers matter because they represent people, jobs, and lives impacted. We are results-oriented, knowing that each success means a better future for individuals and their families. By supporting one another and putting people first, we are on a powerful mission to transform lives and build a brighter future.

  • We believe in partnerships and that they are the way we begin relationships and the way we will have maximum impact on the community. When approached with opportunities ripe for potential, our first thought will be, how can we partner?

  • We go fast; our mission is critical and the need is great. We run as a team and will run at the pace to allow us all to win together.

  • We are an agile organization that stays true to our mission while meeting the needs of our community. We will swim in “blue ocean” lanes / opportunities free of competition and where services have yet to be delivered.

  • Any partnership we form, event we participate in, or event we organize needs to lead to jobs either now or in the future for women in trades. All program planning and implementation should be taken through the lens of promoting pathways for jobs.

  • We will elevate the voices of disenfranchised populations and advocate for equal seats at the table. We will advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion in all spaces we enter. We will require this of our partners, donors, volunteers, and team members.

  • Our family and our health (physical, mental and emotional) are first priority. We need to be well and whole to be fully present and make the impact we need on the community.
